This is a carefully structured reading programme, written by a team of Caribbean authors, which incorporates both the phonic and whole word approaches to reading. It aims to develop children’s reading skills from before they gegin to read, through fluency. T he books have a continuous storyline based around one caribbean family. This draws on the pupil’s experiences of home life, while emphasising structures that show the relationship between spoken and written language.
